440C – A highly rust/stain resistant blade metal with high chrome content and good edge retention. Visually stunning shine & reflection which can be polished to a mirror finish.

Damascus – A mixture of 1095 and 15N20 which is heated & then folded over and over to get the desired blade layering that is harder and more durable than a single type of steel. The blade is then burned in acid which turns the outer layers into different types of electric, water, or fire-like patterns.

D2 – A high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel known for its excellent wear and abrasion resistance properties. With good durability and wear resistance, they can withstand significant impact and wear without chipping, cracking, or breaking. However, sharpening D2 steel knives can be challenging due to their high hardness, requiring specialized tools and techniques.

J2 – A versatile and affordable stainless steel known for its high chromium content and corrosion resistance. It offers a balance between quality and price. In knife-making, J2 steel is used for its affordability and decent corrosion resistance, though it is generally softer and does not hold an edge as well as higher-grade steels. Overall, J2 steel is a practical choice for applications where cost-effectiveness and basic corrosion resistance are prioritized over superior edge retention and strength.

VG-10 – Known for its toughness and ability to hold a sharp edge and resist corrosion, making it an ideal choice for frequently used knives. It’s exceptional hardness allows for the production of sharp, precise edges on knives. The high levels of carbon and vanadium in the steel contribute to its overall strength and durability, making it well-suited for heavy use. Its is known for its great edge retention due to the fine, even grain structure of the steel, which helps maintain the sharpness. High levels of chromium make it highly resistant to corrosion, and it is relatively easy to sharpen thanks to its fine grain structure which allows for a keen edge. 

AUS-10 – A high-carbon stainless steel known for its impressive balance of hardness, toughness, and corrosion resistance; providing a good balance of durability and edge retention due to its high carbon content and the presence of vanadium. It offers high toughness, making it resistant to chipping and breaking under normal use. Its corrosion resistance is high thanks to its significant chromium content. It is relatively easy to sharpen for its hardness level, allowing for quick edge restoration.

52100 – Used industrially for bearings and cutting tools including paper cutting knives and tobacco knives for its excellent wear resistance and strength. It is also a very good kitchen knife steel while being equally adept in the field. It has good toughness, good wear resistance – better than O1 for example. 52100 is a great stand-alone steel and also can be paired with other steels to produce Damascus steel or use as a cutting edge for san-mai blades. Since 52100 knife steel contains more than 1% of Carbon, it will rust if not properly taken care of. The finished blades should be cleaned and oiled after use to avoid corrosion.

ATS-34 – You’ll find ATS 34 in many premium knives. It’s known for its great balance of edge retention and toughness. 440C has a lower carbon content than ATS-34, making it less wear-resistant but more corrosion-resistant in some cases. ATS-34 typically outperforms 440C in terms of edge retention and toughness.

Fixed Blade – The blade is fixed in place as one solid piece, with no moving parts on or comprising the blade that could easily break or fail. Usually required to be worn openly attached from the waist/belt area.

Folding Blade – The blade can be folded into the frame to safely secure and store for EDC and easy legally concealable travel in most countries, counties, and states.

Dagger – Double-Edged knives that may be banned in certain countries, counties, or states.

Full Tang – The fixed blade’s center spine runs all the way down to the very end of the handle portion. The blade and handle core are one piece.
